An unnerving performance of personal privacy in the age of digital surveillance.
After intensive research, I discovered that the reality of data protection in the US (or lack thereof) is surprisingly bleak. Legally, any corporate entity can watch, analyze, and categorize you, the consumer, to better monopolize some of the most valuable unspoken currencies of the 21st century: your attention, and subsequently, your investment (emotional, financial, and more).
The tension is as palpable as it is intentional. To truly provoke the viewer, the eeriness of this silent surveillance, the confusion of just what is being done with your data—your identity—and the growing concern around privacy in the digital age needed to be intuited rather than explicated.
For me, only so much can be expressed with words; sometimes, an experience needs to be felt in unusual ways.
